These gems follow the pattern by MJ Kinman but use fabrics I already had making them different from hers, but I tried to keep the colors close.  Some are closer to the pattern recommendations than others.  There are 12 gems in the pattern covering the year of birthstones.  If I start changing colors there may be more than 12.  I’m finding this pattern intriguing.  The results are a bit of a surprise and that is fun.

Zebras

There is a story about the making of this quilt.  I was gifted the zebra fabric but it was already cut into pieces for a garment.  I needed 9 large squares and tried to cut out as much of a zebra head as I could from the oddly shaped fabric pieces.  The zebra heads were like ‘finding Waldo’ in the fabric and continue to be elusive in the quilt.  Every scrap of zebra fabric was used in the smaller pieces.

Mystery Quilt Retreat

Here is my first attempt at Georgia Bonesteel's technique.  It is currently waiting to be quilted, but I was anxious to show-n-tell.

This inspiration piece from a magazine completely changed my plan for this quilt.  In fact, it turned my original plan upside down.

When I selected fabrics to take to this class I was planning to use the blue and gray water color-ish fabric for the sky and then to use the whites and greens to create snowy, evergreen covered mountains.  

I used some water color pencils to mute a couple of fabrics that popped out as too bright.

Around the Block

This quilt was the 2014 Block of the Month (BOM) for the Wolf Hills Quilt Guild.  I am in love with the "on point" setting triangles and the way it all comes together in the end.  I deviated from the pattern when doing the multiple borders, only because I decided to make it totally from fabric I already had and I came up short to make the borders as directed in the pattern.  I tried out some new longarm quilting on this quilt.  I learn more with each one I quilt.  This is a Debbie Mumm pattern and available on her website.  http://www.debbiemumm.com/Projects/QuiltBlocks/2010/

Blogging with the grands

We had 2 Grands for 2 weeks this summer.  We had a lovely time.  I took lots of photos and we talked about making a photo album.  In the end, we ran out of time and I started posting some of the photos on a blog to share with Mum And Dad back home.  https://www.wolfhuntinginabingdon.blogspot.com.
